How to I report elder abuse or suspected elder abuse?

In a critical situation (e.g. where there is a serious risk to an older person’s life), it is vital to seek help from the appropriate emergency service (e.g. Police or Ambulance) by phoning 000.

Domestic and family violence can take many forms. It can happen to anyone.

It is when a partner, ex-partner or family member hurts another family member. Domestic or family violence may include any of the following:

  • physical harm
  • sexual abuse
  • violent or threatening behaviour
  • verbal or social abuse
  • psychological or emotional abuse
  • neglect
  • financial exploitation.
Reporting domestic and family violence (this includes elder abuse)
  • If you are experiencing or have witnessed domestic, family, or sexual violence you must report it.
  • Call 000 if you or someone you know is in immediate danger.
  • If it’s not an emergency, call police on 131 444.
